Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his business partner - also his ex-wife - Dany Garcia have announced a return date for the XFL.
The former WWE superstar bought the league out of bankruptcy following its second failed attempt to become an American sports staple. COVID-19 is to blame for the latest failure, with things having gotten off to a great start before the very upbeat campaign got forced into cancelation.

The Rock, Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners bought all of the assets back in August and, per their latest update, they aim to get things up and running again by spring 2022.
"XFL returns SPRING 2022. As owners, we're proud to champion our XFL players, coaches, cities and fans into an electrifying 2022 season!" Johnson tweeted on Thursday. "It's an uphill battle - but we're hungry, humble and no one will outwork us. A league of culture, passion & purpose. #XFL #Spring2022."
Dany also made her pledge.
"The XFL represents the idea of ultimate opportunity; it's a league of soul and culture, anchored by the pursuit of dreams and love for the game, that we couldn't be more proud to lead," they said in a press release obtained from Wrestling Inc. "Every XFL player, coach, city and fan is our top priority and we couldn't be more excited to champion them in an electrifying 2022 season. We are the new XFL—hungry, humble and no one will outwork us."
XFL president and COO Jeffrey Pollack highlighted the importance of being patient, echoing The Rock's plans to get back onto the field in 2022. "We want to do this properly with care and thought for everyone who loves football, especially our players, coaches, partners and fans," he said.
We Just Might See Dewey Gear Up!
The Rock's involvement will certainly give the XFL a much-needed boost and he just might get suited up himself, having teased physical participation earlier this month.
Whether or not he's serious about playing for a team is left to be seen. But we imagine the league will be a hit - whether or not he takes to the field - if everything goes according to plan.
