Shawn Michaels, the man who ended Ric Flair’s in-ring career at WrestleMania 24, has opined on the latter’s plans to return to the squared circle for one last match.

Michaels and Flair put on one of the most legendary matches in WrestleMania history when they clashed in March 2008. They went at it for 20 minutes in a match that pushed both of them to their limits before Flair signaled for HBK to end it. Michaels would lay him out with a final Superkick after apologizing and telling Flair he loved him.

That was supposed to have been curtains for Flair, but he ended up wrestling for TNA due to financial problems, and his last fight came in the form of a loss against old rival Sting in 2011.

The Nature Boy is now booked for one last match dubbed Ric Flair’s Final Match set to take place in Nashville on July 31st as part of Starrcast.

It's Never Over

Michaels discussed the development on the True Geordie Podcast and said he’s backing Flair, for whom he joked it’s never over.

“Those of us that know The Naitch are always, you know, kinda tickled. It’s never over for The Naitch! That’s one of the things that makes him who he is. I want Ric to be happy, and if getting in the ring one more time… Ric knows if he can do it or not," he said (H/T Inside Te Ropes). Ric knows if he’s healthy enough, and if it’s something that brings him joy, brings him contentment, I wish him the best.

“Obviously, always want him to be careful, but I think when it comes to being in that ring, that might be where he’s most comfortable and that’s where he finds the most amount of joy, and if that’s the case and he can do it and stay healthy and happy, I’m always gonna support him in that.”

Despite being 73 now, Flair has declared this upcoming match has to be better than the retirement bout he had against HBK in 2008.
