WWE has turned the WWE Performance Center in NXT's new home. Not only that, they've renamed the venue in honor of an old promotion.
WWE NXT will be taking place at the Performance Center in Orlando from now on, only it won't be known as the Performance Center. In a social media and official release on Sunday, WWE and NXT offered up a first-look video at the newly revamped and renamed venue. Now being dubbed the Capitol Wrestling Center, the new name is in homage to the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, which is the original name prior to the World Wide Wrestling Federation coming into existence.
The Capitol Wrestling Corporation was founded by Vince McMahon’s grandfather Jess McMahon and run by Vince McMahon, Sr. NXT announce Vic Joseph talked about it before the lights went on to reveal the new-look NXT arena.
"It's a historic callback to where this all began," Triple H said about the new name. "We gutted the Performance Center and it's now rebuilt, so it feels like we're going back to the beginning."
Joseph said NXT always looks to the past as they inspire their future. The lights came on and the NXT logo was shown. It appears mesh fences have taken the place of the Plexiglass and speculation is that fans (while controlled in numbers) will be allowed into the arena for shows. Along with the virtual fans, there will be around 100 people at tonight's show.
In the video below, WWE shows what the Capitol Wrestling Center looks like.
More of An NXT Feel
The new set is edgier, darker and more "NXT" according to reports and it should be interesting to see how it plays off on television starting with NXT TakeOver 31 which airs tonight at 7 pm eastern on the WWE Network.
As for what this means for Full Sail University, Triple H said the brand is not severing their relationship with the location. He noted. "I'm very proud of all we've done there. This move is the right decision for us from a tech standpoint, but I look forward to returning there soon and the partnership remains strong."
