It's been nearly three months since Naomi and Sasha Banks walked out of WWE, but recent reports have indicated that the former Women's Tag Team Champions could return soon.

Naomi and Banks walked out of the 5/16 Raw show due to apparent unhappiness with the company's plans for the main event that evening. On SmackDown four days later, Michael Cole announced that the two superstars had been suspended and that a tournament would be held to determine the new Women's Tag Team Champions.

Ahead of this week's Raw show, it was reported that Banks and Naomi reached an agreement to return to the company, leading to speculation that they would return to television that evening. That never transpired, but subsequent reports indicated that the two will eventually return to the company.

In the newest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Dave Meltzer provided some notes on Naomi's WWE contract status. According to Meltzer, Naomi's "contract in theory expired", though he added that the company may have "frozen" it to prevent the former SmackDown Women's Champions from signing with another promotion. Regardless, Meltzer wrote, "the belief is that Naomi and Banks are returning."

Curiously, WWE hasn't announced any concrete plans for a tournament to decide the new Women's Tag Team Champions. If Naomi and Banks return soon, perhaps WWE will give its fans and superstars some more clarity on that.

Banks has been relatively quiet on social media since the walkout, but she tweeted for the first time in a while on Friday to express excitement over meeting fans at this weekend's C2E2 event.

Apparently, the initial main event plan for the 5/16 Raw show was for Naomi to win a Six-Pack Challenge that would've made her the new No. 1 contender for Bianca Belair's Raw Women's Championship. Following the walkout, however, WWE had to switch up the plans. Asuka would defeat Becky Lynch in a singles match to become the No. 1 contender for Belair's championship.
