Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, better known as The Good Brothers, recently returned to WWE after being let go by the company in April 2020, due to COVID "budget cuts." The Good Brothers have always been a bit of a polarizing team to fans, but absence makes the heart grow fonder, and they've been warmly welcomed by the WWE Universe as they've slotted in next to old pal AJ Styles as babyfaces to reform The O.C., a reference to their time together in the Bullet Club while in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The Good Brothers returned on the October 10 Monday Night Raw to back up Styles in his feud with Finn Balor and the Judgment Day. Balor (as Prince Devitt) was actually the founder and initial leader of Bullet Club before Styles took over in 2014 when he came to WWE, so there are many story threads here. Interestingly enough, Anderson is still NJPW's NEVER Openweight Champion, which is intriguing in its own right. It is certainly a fresh and exciting feud with the Good Brothers back on board. However, today we're going to examine their most bizarre feud from their first stint in WWE, with The New Day in 2016 while in the midst of their record-breaking 483-day tag team championship reign.

The New Day And Good Brothers Feud Begins In An Odd Way
The Good Brothers (then known as The Club) suffered a non-title loss to the New Day on the August 1, 2016, edition of Raw, although the Good Brothers got the last laugh in taking out Big E by double-team slamming his testicles on the ring post. The following week on Raw, they cut a promo in a doctor's office, claiming to be doctors themselves, to discuss an epidemic affecting tag teams on Raw known as "Ringpostitis."
It was an incredibly silly segment that reeked of Vince McMahon humor. Video footage of what they did to Big E played multiple times, and then Anderson pulled out a jar seemingly filled with discolored water and eggs, claiming them to be Big E's testicles following an emergency surgery they performed. The Good Brother's proceeded to use dumb puns like "the results were nuts," "it kind of makes you want to ball your eyes out," and "it does make me a little bit testy." The segment ended with them saying they planned to take another sample that night from Kofi Kingston. The Good Brothers are pretty funny dudes, as evidenced by their old podcast "Talkin' Shop," but this was not it.

The Good Brothers Defeat The New Day By DQ At SummerSlam 2016
Weeks later, the Good Brothers challenged the New Day for the tag team championships at SummerSlam 2016. With Big E still out from his Ringpostitis, the New Day were accompanied by former Daily Show host Jon Stewart, who served as the host of SummerSlam the year prior. Late in the match, the Good Brothers hit their trademark Magic Killer on Kingston, but Stewart got in the ring and was grabbed. Then the music hit and Big E was back. He attacked both Good Brothers leading to the disqualification, and then Big E actually drank some fluid from the jar containing his "testicles." It was very weird to witness.
Eight days later on Raw, The Good Brothers cut a similar promo to the doctor bit, but this time they were retirement specialists. They used a ridiculous acronym that spelled OLD FART, and showed footage of them taking out the Dudley Boyz the prior week, "encouraging" them to retire. The Good Brothers said they had a new treatment program for the New Day, and brought out nurse Dana Brooke who finished the promo with, "So where do we begin?" This was probably worse than the doctor segment.

The Good Brothers Introduce "The Old Day" And Fail To Capture The Tag Team Titles Again
They continued their retirement gimmick the next week on Raw, as the Good Brothers introduced The Old Day, which was three guys dressed up as old men in New Day gear, equipped with canes, walkers, and a wheelchair. They said a bunch of dumb stuff related to the feud, before the New Day came out to chase the Good Brothers away. They ultimately beat up the Old Day, but it was yet another wacky and pretty bad segment.
The Good Brothers would challenge the New Day for the tag team championships two more times on Raw later in 2016 and lose both matches, although they did defeat The New Day in a non-title match in between. They would eventually win the titles over Sheamus & Cesaro (who dethroned the New Day) on the 2017 Royal Rumble Kickoff show. Unfortunately, the bizarre feud with the New Day didn't really do much to help the Good Brothers. Hopefully they're booked much stronger during their second WWE tenure.
