General Manager mode was a staple of the early SmackDown vs. Raw titles that started in 2006 before being dropped in 2008 in favor of modes like Road To WrestleMania. The mode saw players focus on being the general manager of either Raw or SmackDown (with ECW being included in 08), managing their roster, championships, feuds, and finances.
10 New Features That WWE 2K24 Needs To Have
WWE 2K24 promises to build on the success of its predecessor, and there are certain features it should absolutely have.2K had a surprise when releasing 2K22 when they brought back GM mode, now titled MyGM. The first iteration was a little bare bones and saw a few changes coming into 2K23. Fans are still hoping to see MyGM reach the same heights that GM Mode did back in its prime, and here are a few ways that 2K could reach that same feeling with WWE 2K24.
10 Bring Back Storylines
Have Different Stories For Every Feud
- The SVR Series Had Storyline Writers, Giving Feuds An Exciting Theme.
- The Writers Were Mostly The Team Working On The SVR Series.
- Had Stories Such As "Legend Killer" & "Student Turns On Teacher"
One exciting idea that the SmackDown vs. Raw titles had that 2K has yet to feature, were the storyline writers. Players could pay a fee to unlock multiple stories written for the game and mirrored things fans saw on television at the time.
With stories being such a prominent thing in professional wrestling, it is odd that 2K hasn't yet added this. So, with their third attempt at the mode coming in 2K24, there is no better time than now.
9 Activities Outside Of Wrestling
Ways To Build Up A Wrestler Without Wrestling
- SmackDown Vs. Raw 2008 Had Multiple Options To Improve A Superstar's Stats.
- These Options Didn't Return In The 2K Series.
While they weren't the most interesting and were boiled down to just a single image with a superstar placed in it, SVR 2008 had a few different options to improve the player's roster while waiting for their next episode to come up.
These included having a selected wrestler star in a movie, training a certain skill, or participating in a charity event. Adding this back in would give players a bit more help with improving talent without needing to have them wrestle and risk injuring themselves.
8 More Realistic Details
Such As A Ranking System And Reports
- Previous Titles Had Ranking Systems For Every Wrestler.
- There Were Also Reports Giving A Detailed Breakdown Of Things Like Injuries And Finances.
Something that could be added to make players feel a lot more like a general manager would be the paperwork part of the job. SmackDown vs. Raw featured reports detailing the money that was spent on a show, timelines, the history of a certain wrestler's injuries, and more.
Arguably though, this is a minor feature that most won't find necessary, it could be a small improvement to make the mode just a bit more like being an actual general manager.
7 Create Your Own Show
Include Custom Titles And Arenas
- Allow Players To Choose A Custom Arena For Their Show.
- Same With Custom Championship Belts.
A lot of the improvements made to WWE 2K24 could be simplified to bringing back things from the SmackDown vs. Raw series, those games weren't perfect either and had a few things they could have added or changed as well. One major feature would be giving players the freedom to be the general manager of their own custom show.
WWE 2K24's Official Teasers Begin As Superstars Make Their Cover Star Picks
More news on the next game of the series will be here next week.Instead of running Monday Night Raw or Monday Nitro, players could create TNA Impact or AEW Dynamite with accurate titles to represent that show. Similar to being a custom GM (which is already available), the custom show could feature a certain bonus to help players.
6 Sandbox Mode
Remove All Limitations
- Allow Players To Perform Trades With No Restrictions.
- Remove The Cost Of Shows And Contracts.
- Remove Superstar Morale And Fatigue.
Of course, the 2K series has Universe Mode, which allows players to control a show similar to MyGM but with no limitations, but it isn't exactly the same. Starting with 2007, the SmackDown vs. Raw series gave control over whether the opposing show would have logic behind trades and the ability to remove things like superstar morale and cost.
Putting this back in could be a fun way for people who want to play MyGM without needing to deal with the harder parts of the mode.
5 Superstar Contract Lengths
Being Able To Have A Decent Roster Without Going Broke
- Give Options To How Long Players Can Sign A Talent.
- Wrestlers Can Decline New Deals.
Attempting to be a bit more realistic again, contracts are a major part of wrestling and often see talent leave promotions and show up somewhere else because of either money or creative issues. Bringing back contracts for wrestlers in 2K24 could be fun if tied with the superstar morale.
If a player has a wrestler who is unhappy, they can leave once their contract is up and test free agency. Another idea is that if a wrestler has low morale, they can outright refuse a new deal when being offered to resign. Doing this would make the game feel more real and add a shake-up element, forcing players to rethink their plans.
4 Choosing Inaugural Champions For All Belts
Not Just The World & Women's
- Choose The Starting Champion For Every Belt At The Start Of The Year.
- Allow Players To Leave Belts Vacant If Desired.
Currently, WWE 2K23 only allows the choice of a World & Women's Champion after choosing your roster. This was a feature in the old GM Mode, but players could pick their US/Intercontinental Champion and Tag Team Champions. Instead, players have to assign the two major belts and then have a match for the other titles somewhere down the line.
This caused more than a few players to not even know that the titles existed in MyGM unless they found it by accident. Giving the option for every belt should also include leaving it vacant in case players decide to have a match to determine the first champion.
3 More Match Types
This Goes For The Game As A Whole
- Include Match Types That Have Been Removed From Previous Games.
- Include Every Match Type In MyGM.
Famously, fans have been asking for matches like the Buried Alive or special guest referees contests to be added back into the 2K series. With the recent teasers coming out, fans have been speculating whether they are or not.
WWE 2K: 5 Wrestlers Who Will Have A Higher Rating In WWE 2K24 (& 5 That Will Be Lower)
Some WWE 2K wrestler ratings are going to change for next year's edition, with certain talents deserving higher and lower scores.Oddly though, some of the available matches in the current 2K titles can't be done in MyGM. Matches like 5 or 6-person events and handicap matches are currently not used in MyGM. The biggest crime in that is the WarGames match (which was a major selling point of the new title) couldn't be used in MyGM.
2 Unlock Things Through MyGM
Such As Superstars, Attires, Or Belts
- Reaching Certain Goals Or Beating MyGM Unlocks Something.
- Could Make The General Manager An Unlockable Player/Manager.
Currently, there is no reason to play MyGM other than just to have a good time with it. Excluding trophies/achievements, there isn't anything unlocked once you beat a season of MyGM. 2K could easily fix this by restricting something and earning once you reach a certain goal or beat MyGM as a whole.
An easy idea is making the general manager that players use a playable character. For example, if you beat MyGM with Adam Pearce, then players can use him as a wrestler or manager. It would be something small but at least give the mode a reason for people to play.
1 Allow Trading Between Brands
Also Including Multi-Show Trades
- General Managers Can Trade Wrestlers Between Each Other.
- CPU GM's Can Send Out Trade Offers.
- Have Multi-Brand Trades For MyGM With Multiple General Managers.
SmackDown vs. Raw always included the option to trade talent between shows. For some odd reason, this feature wasn't brought back in 2K22 and still didn't return in 2K23. This is something almost every fan wants to be implemented again. It should be the first thing added in the new MyGM and include a few new features to make it a bit more interesting.
Such as CPU managers being able to send out offers to the player. This happens in the NBA 2K MyLeague mode, so 2K can easily make this a feature. Similar to MyLeague, allow multi-show trades so that every brand can be included with each roster gaining something from it.
