Since WrestleMania 36, WWE’s biggest show of the year has become a two-night event. This has allowed for more money to be made, a more spread-out and palatable card, and even more matches.

Over the years, there have either been multiple matches worthy of the main event of WrestleMania, or cases where WWE has simply picked the wrong match to close out the show. If WrestleMania was always two nights, then there are many more matches that would have gotten that prestigious spot. It is interesting to take a look at certain WrestleManias, and which matches would have been given that top spot.

10 The Ultimate Warrior Vs. Randy Savage, WrestleMania 7

Ultimate Warrior Vs. Randy Savage

WrestleMania 7 was headlined by Hulk Hogan and Sgt. Slaughter, but the match with the most heat and entertainment was arguably the Retirement Match between The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage.

This match had high stakes and the emotional post-match moment of Savage reuniting with Miss Elizabeth. Seeing that as the closing image of a WrestleMania would have made the moment even more special, and there is little doubt that this would get the spot if it were two nights.

9 Shawn Michaels Vs. The Undertaker, WrestleMania 25

At WrestleMania 25, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker wrestled one of the greatest matches in professional wrestling history. It should have been the main event ahead of Triple H and Randy Orton for sure.

If this show had two nights, then this would have been in the final spot ahead of other matches like the World Heavyweight Championship match between John Cena, Edge, and Big Show.

8 Daniel Bryan Vs. Kofi Kingston, WrestleMania 35

Daniel Bryan Vs Kofi Kingston WrestleMania 35

WrestleMania 35 had three huge babyface title winners, and all three of those matches could have conceivably closed the show. It was the right call having Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey close out the show, but if there were two nights, it would have been a toss-up between Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar and Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan.

Based on how the matches were laid out, the Bryan/Kingston match feels like the one more likely to have been given that main event spot.

7 CM Punk Vs. The Undertaker, WrestleMania 29

Fans didn’t want to see The Rock and John Cena have a rematch at WrestleMania 29, and they especially didn’t want it in the main event. CM Punk vs. The Undertaker was the match of the night, and if any match on the card was to main event another night, it was this one.

WrestleMania 29 had a very underwhelming card, so there would have been little competition for CM Punk vs. The Undertaker.

6 Diesel Vs. Shawn Michaels, WrestleMania 11

The WWE Championship match between Shawn Michaels and Diesel was shunned for the celebrity involvement of Lawrence Taylor in the main event of WrestleMania 11.

If there were two nights, then nothing else on the show was anywhere near the quality of a true main event match other than Diesel vs Michaels, who had arguably the best match of the entire show.

5 The Rock Vs. Hulk Hogan, WrestleMania 18

rock-hogan-wrestlemania-18

The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan stole the show at WrestleMania 18, and it is often looked upon as one of the best showdowns of all time. For many, this was the true main event, and if there had been two nights, then there is no question that it would have been this massive clash between two huge stars that closed out the night.

Instead, it was Chris Jericho vs Triple H which closed WrestleMania 18, though it was very underwhelming following the masterclass of Rock and Hogan.

4 Ric Flair Vs. Randy Savage, WrestleMania 8

Ric Flair and Randy Savage were billed as a “main event”, but this WWE Championship match didn’t close the show, as Hulk Hogan took on Sid Justice.

This was the match of the night, and given that it was for the biggest prize in WWE, it should have been the closing match on the show. If it was two nights, then WWE could have spotlighted their biggest belt, and also allowed Hogan to have his main event (yet again).

3 Yokozuna Vs. Lex Luger, WrestleMania 10

Although other matches like Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon and Owen Hart vs. Bret Hart would’ve been better suited for the main event, there is little doubt that it would have been Yokozuna vs. Lex Luger in the main event of night one, and Yokozuna vs. Bret Hart on night two.

Luger and Hart both earned title shots due to drawing in the Rumble match, and it feels very likely that Vince McMahon would have booked the world title to close the show on both nights.

2 Batista Vs. The Undertaker, WrestleMania 23

Batista and The Undertaker

The Undertaker won the 2007 Royal Rumble match, so should have really been given the main event spot at WrestleMania 23 instead of John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels.

There is no doubt at all that The Undertaker against Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship would close out another night of WrestleMania.

1 Charlotte Flair Vs. Becky Lynch Vs. Sasha Banks, WrestleMania 32

Three years after this match, a triple threat involving Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair main evented WrestleMania, becoming the first-ever women’s match to have this spot. However, another triple-threat match involving these two should have arguably achieved this feat already.

Flair vs. Lynch vs. Banks was among the best matches on the show, and the crowd was red-hot for it too. It was a true coming-out party for the women’s revolution, introducing the Women’s Championship and getting rid of the Divas Title. If WWE had two nights to work with, then this match would have been pushed to the top.
